TFS International and Semcon Caran completes asset transfer
On January 31st, 2013 TFS International (TFS) signed an asset transfer agreement with Semcon Caran (Semcon) in a takeover of Semcon’s contract research business focusing on technology- and electronic data capture (EDC) services. The asset transfer will be in effect on April 1st, 2013.
The technology group will expand TFS capabilities in providing validated and cost efficient EDC solutions for regional and global late stage trials in Phase IV, observational- and non-interventional, and medical device studies. The contract research business is a life science technology division of Semcon.
“TFS customers will have access to a highly professional technology team and an easy to use e-CRF system. We will strengthen the early phase services as well as the late phase services”
says Jan Hellqvist, Regional Managing Director, TFS Northern Europe.
Assets such as; technology know-how, personnel employed by the contract research business and existing projects including the proposal pipeline, will as of April 1st, 2013 be fully transferred to TFS. The Semcon life science technology group will increase TFS competitiveness in late stage clinical trials and among the growing number of medical device- and small biotech companies, by collecting and analyzing clinical data in a speedy and cost efficient way through the EDC-system called 'Trial-on-Line'.
“TFS has been searching the market for an e-CRF system in order to provide our biotech and global late phase clients with a cost efficient EDC solution. The Semcon deal means that we have found the best tool for this purpose and have also acquired an experienced team who can start working immediately on new late phase EDC studies for our customers”
says Dr. Montse Barceló, Executive European VP at TFS.
Semcon is a global technology company active in the areas of engineering services and product information. Semcon has 3,000 dedicated employees supporting customers who are active in many different development-intensive industries.
“TFS was our first choice due to Geographical proximity, best match with Semcon capabilities and the brand recognition of TFS”
says Cecilia Norberg, Division Manager at Semcon.
The terms and conditions of the acquisition are not disclosed.
