As the world unites to recognize International Day of Zero Waste on March 30, TFS HealthScience is proud to share the steps we’re taking to reduce waste and embrace sustainability in clinical research. In line with our long-term sustainability goals, we have implemented key initiatives to minimize waste and foster a greener future for our organization and the communities we serve.

Paving the way toward environmental sustainability: Building a greener future

At TFS, our overarching sustainability objectives span four key areas—Environment, Social, Governance, and Stakeholder Engagement. Within this framework, we are particularly focused on reducing our environmental footprint, with waste reduction, resource optimization, and innovative eco-friendly practices forming essential components of our holistic approach.

Our commitment to environmental sustainability includes:

  • Setting science-based emission reduction targets aligned with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
  • Reducing our carbon footprint by transitioning to renewable energy, promoting eco-friendly business travel and commuting, and optimizing resource management.
  • Encouraging eco-friendly procurement and sustainable practices across our supply chain.

Waste Reduction Initiatives: A Spotlight on Zero Waste Day

As part of our journey toward sustainability, we have introduced specific initiatives aimed at reducing waste and contributing to a circular economy:

  • IT Equipment Refurbishment, Reuse, and Recycling
    • We participate in a sustainable technology lifecycle management program for our IT equipment, ensuring that devices are repurposed or recycled responsibly. This initiative not only minimizes electronic waste but also extends the lifecycle of valuable resources.
  • Digital Transformation to Reduce Paper Usage
    • We have implemented digital document management systems, reducing the reliance on paper across our operations and the clinical trials we run.
    • We further eliminate unnecessary paper waste by adopting modern, efficient communication tools, such as switching to digital business cards and replacing printed materials at exhibitions and conferences for electronic formats.
    • For instances where printing is necessary, we encourage double-sided printing to halve paper usage.
  • Office Recycling and Biodegradable Alternatives
    • Across all our offices, we promote a culture of recycling by providing accessible recycling stations. We also encourage the use of reusable or biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastics, fostering a workplace that prioritizes sustainability in everyday practices.

Joining Hands for a Sustainable Future

As a global contract research organization (CRO), our commitment to sustainability extends beyond internal practices. At TFS, we believe collaboration is key to driving impactful change. We work closely with sponsors, suppliers, and our employees to integrate sustainability across the clinical trials value chain.

This Zero Waste Day, we reaffirm our dedication to reducing waste, conserving resources, and contributing to a greener planet. Together, we can build a future where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.
