Back to Glossary

A mutation is a change in the DNA sequence of a gene. Mutations can occur naturally during DNA replication or be induced by environmental factors such as radiation or chemicals. They can be harmless, cause diseases, or confer beneficial traits. Mutations play a key role in evolution and genetic diversity.
