Oculocutaneous Albinism

Back to Glossary

Oculocutaneous Albinism

Oculocutaneous albinism is a genetic condition characterized by a lack of melanin pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes. This results in very light skin and hair, and vision problems such as reduced visual acuity, nystagmus, and sensitivity to light. Management includes protecting the skin from sun exposure and addressing visual impairments.
