Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Back to Glossary

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a non-surgical procedure used to treat narrowing or blockage of coronary arteries. It involves inserting a catheter with a balloon to open the artery and often placing a stent to keep it open. PCI improves blood flow to the heart, relieving symptoms of angina and reducing the risk of heart attacks.
