Subcutaneous Tissue

Back to Glossary

Subcutaneous Tissue

Subcutaneous tissue, also known as the hypodermis, is the deepest layer of the skin. It consists of loose connective tissue, adipose tissue (fat), and blood vessels. The subcutaneous tissue serves as a protective layer, insulates the body, stores energy, and anchors the skin to underlying structures such as muscles and bones.
