Unmasking/Unblinding

Back to Glossary

Unmasking/Unblinding

Unmasking, or unblinding, refers to the process in clinical trials where the treatment assignments of participants are revealed. This typically occurs at the end of a study or in cases where participant safety is at risk. In blinded studies, unmasking ensures that researchers and participants remain unbiased during the study, preserving the integrity of the data until it is necessary to reveal the treatment details.
