Varicose Veins

Back to Glossary

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that are visible just under the surface of the skin, usually in the legs. They result from weakened or damaged valves in the veins, causing blood to pool and veins to enlarge. Symptoms may include aching, swelling, and a heavy feeling in the legs. Treatments range from lifestyle changes and compression stockings to procedures like sclerotherapy, laser therapy, or surgery.
