Wood’s Lamp Examination

Back to Glossary

Wood’s Lamp Examination

Wood’s Lamp Examination is a diagnostic procedure that uses ultraviolet (UV) light to detect bacterial or fungal infections, pigmentary disorders, and other skin abnormalities. The lamp emits UV light that causes certain substances in the skin to fluoresce, making them visible under examination. It is commonly used in dermatology to diagnose conditions such as vitiligo, fungal infections, and bacterial infections.
